our cozy weekend plans

When the windchill is -12F at morning minyan, you come home and pile up books for the weekend. And knitting too.

I plan to snuggle under a wool blanket (or three) and read. Dot’s planning to be cozy in her cat cave (or my lap). I might venture out Sunday if the weather cooperates; this NYer might even brave Times Square for VK Live. The things I do for yarn.

what i’m reading

I raided the shul library for cookbooks (The World of Jewish Desserts, Sephardic Cooking) and my beloved Olive Trees and Honey is still upstairs. I’m hunting for recipes to break my cooking slump and also to bring as treats to Thursday afternoon knitting. It’s so cold, honestly I just want to hibernate with food and books.

From the library, I’m most excited about Playful by Cas Holman. I’m loving it. This is what I advocate, more with yarn than websites, but I’ve been championing staging sites long before they were easy to create. My hold for The Black Wolf by Louise Penny finally came in. And The Blanket Cats by Kiyoshi Shigenmatsu drew me in with its title and cover; I love this sort of Japanese cozy in moderation.

There are also a few other library books and ebooks (still in the throes of the J.D. Robb reread, book 20), but as the temp drops I’m cozier with paper books.

I’m mostly caught up with daf yomi. I’m pushing through Menahot right now, though I know chapter 3 will catch my attention since it includes details for scribes, and chapter 4 will have a tzitzit discussion.

what i’m knitting

I sorted through my WIPs last Sunday and discovered I have over 30. Some only need a seam. Others I’ve just started. It’s a bit… extreme. I’m going to work on finishing projects, or frogging those that no longer give me joy.

The yarn pictured is for several projects. The pale aqua with teal and orange speckles is Oink Pigments Dapper in Random Carp for a trio of hats I’m planning to rerelease. The two fingering weight cakes are for Wrapezoid by Shana S. Cohen: grey Artyarns Merino Cloud in 2246 and navy By Amalie Merino Sock in Magical Night. I have about 2 inches of the collar left to knit, plus finishing.

There’s also another Start with Chai hair ribbon I’m working on. I’m knitting a new sample in a By Amalie mini to check my math. If I go to VKL, I’d like to have it finished so I have a reason to buy more yarn at the show. The logic checks out.

What plans do you have to stay warm and cozy this weekend?
