Earlier this week it was a very pleasant, warm, sunny afternoon. I had completed my work in the morning and had made headway on future work. I realized it would be wrong to waste such a beautiful autumn afternoon, so I took my wheel outside and finished spinning some singles (the white natural fiber).

I honestly can’t remember the last time I sat at the wheel. I know, given the state of that bobbin, I was fighting it. It took a few moments to diagnose that it was simply at the wrong ratio for what I wanted to spin. So I changed it and all the problems went away.
When I finished it, I decided to spin up some baby camel that at first I had been spindling. It’s delicious to spin and is so soft. It’s been in my stash over a decade, waiting for me to finish spinning it.

I went outside expecting to spend maybe a half hour. I was outside for nearly ninety minutes!
Today is sunny but a bit too chilly (and breezy) to sit outside. If I finish my work early enough this afternoon and there’s time before Shabbat, hopefully I’ll sit at the wheel inside and spin some more camel. I don’t have a really good spot to spin inside, at least not one where I can leave the wheel set up.
I also need to work on revising my lazy kate. I tend to overspin, so I need to turn it into a tensioned one. My bobbin style makes this not as straightforward as it is for others. It’s not difficult; I just need to pick up some parts at the hardware store.
While I haven’t been spinning lately, there are a few skeins of my handspun available at little acorn creations. These are handspun yarns; each is unique. Please look at each listing for details regarding fiber content, WPI, skein weight, and length.
It felt amazing to spend that time outside. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. One of the reasons I work for myself and from home is to be able to do things like this on occasion; to step away when the weather is beautiful and tend to something that feeds my soul. It was the mental health boost I needed, and it rekindled my love of spinning in a way my work last year with my spindles hadn’t.
