November Reads (2020 Edition)

November was all about distraction books. I read the Mercy Thompson books and the Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs. Then I tore through The Hollows by Kim Harrison, well almost all of it, I made it through the first ten books and am finishing up the series now. Yes, these books are like candy and yes, I like to binge read.

Series Recommendations

I highly enjoyed all three of these urban fantasy series. The characters are strong, imperfect, and know how to have fun. It took quite a bit of fancy tap work with different library systems to keep the stream of eBooks in front of me.

Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs

Mercy is a mechanic (none of that fancy new stuff, she specializes in VWs) with a secret. She can shape shift to a coyote. She tries to navigate a world with weres, vampires, feys, and humans.

It’s Mercy’s fault I’ve been baking cookies and have “make brownies” on my todo list.

Alpha & Omega Series by Patricia Briggs

Set in the same world as Mercy Thompson, the books follow Anna and Charles as they figure out where and how they fit within society and with each other.

I enjoy that Anna and Charles are trying to figure out their relationship and that they own up to the mistakes they make.

The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison

Cured of a deadly disorder as a child, Rachel learns to her surprise she is not just an earth witch. When she quits her job, and two colleagues (Jenks, a pixy and Ivy, a living vampire) join her. Their friendship strengthens in their new partnership. Rachel tries to figure out who she is while fighting off and with both elves and demons.

Rachel wants to fix everything. She makes her decisions with imperfect information and they don’t always go how she expected. I enjoy the unexpected and the strength of her friendship with Jenks and Ivy.

Current Reads

Once I finish The Hollows, I’m not sure what I’ll read next. I’d love to finish a few more NetGalley titles I should have reviewed years ago, but we’ll see what happens.
