catching up on some reading

Aah, September. The time of year when I want most to curl up with a book and read all day. Wait, don’t I say that every month? Yes, there was that odd period a few weeks ago when I had that rare case of reader’s block, I couldn’t finish books, but thankfully that is now in the past. I even managed to write a few reviews last month!

Below are a few of the books I read (or reread) recently that I want to highlight.

Rereads

Victory of Eagles & Tongue of SerpentsI’m rereading the later half of Naomi Novik‘s Temeraire series so I can write my review of League of Dragons. Victory of Eagles and Tongue of Serpents are done and I’m waiting for a library hold to come in before I complete the series.

hunterI also reread Hunter by Mercedes Lackey. Sure I’m a Misty fangirl, and I can see how one could say it’s an overused plot at this point, but Lackey’s writing makes it an enjoyable read. Hopefully, I’ll to read Elite soon.

New Reads

yarnitectureI read Jillian Moreno‘s newest book, Yarnitecture cover to cover several times before I wrote up some thoughts which you can find at little acorn creations. It’s a book I wish I had years ago. It’s most helpful for the spinner who has figured out the basics and now wants to make usable yarn and have fun doing so.

imprudenceGail Carriger‘s books great fun. The second book in her Custard Protocol series, Imprudence was a nice quick read. She writes “comedic steampunk urbane fantasy” and if you haven’t tried any of her novels, please do.

Black Hole Blues and Other Songs from Outer SpaceI found Black Hole Blues and Other Songs from Outer Space by Janna Levin both enjoyable and approachable.

What reading has captured your attention? Is there a book you are looking forward to reading?
