reading alternate worlds
I travelled to two alternate worlds this past week and one volume, while slim, offered many varied destinations. They were fun and I look forward to catching up on some work and having the luxury of reading more this week. My book pile to the sky is threatening to fall over. I’ve not yet received more bookcases for Chanukah, but I’m still hopeful. ;)
Realms: The First Year of Clarkesworld Magazine
edited by Sean Wallace and Nick Mamatas.
Paperback, 248 pages
Wyrm Publishing
This slim compilation of the first year of Clarkesworld Magazine is amazing. I stand by what I wrote last week: Wow. Wow. Again, you must go read. Thus far, The Other Amazon is probably my favourite out of the entire collection. Go read it NOW.
Ender In Exile
by Orson Scott Card
Hardcover, 384 pages
Tor Books
It was difficult to open the cover of a new Ender book. I was scared. Why? I love Ender’s Game and the original Enderverse books, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide and Children of the Mind. There’s something about these that I feel is missing from the later Shadow books. I set myself up to be disappointed. It wasn’t as bad as I feared, Ender’s Game it’s not, but it’s still a fun Enderverse read and I was sad to see it done.
