bribery
When stressed I tend to do one or more of the following:
- eat chocolate
- take books out of the library
- eat popcorn
- knit
- take more books out of the library
- sleep
- knit
- take more books out of the library
- read
Do we see where this is going?
I have more books than I care to count currently out from the library. I have only compelted one of them (which is actually a 3-in-1 with one I read recently). So, I’m bribing myself. I finish that 48 page paper for class? I can read a chapter of a book I choose. I have knit only within my set time limits, then I may read another chapter. I finish something for a client? I may read another chapter. I’m close to finishing another book, but not quite there yet. Oh and thankfully (?) the library was closed today. I have three more books waiting for me!
I finished Planet Pirates by Anne McCaffrey, Jody Lynn Nye, and Elizabeth Moon. This is a 3-fer which is quite heavy and includes Death of Sleep, Sassinak, and Generation Warriors. I really enjoyed this and am in awe of how the entire store ties together. The Death of Sleep gives Lunzie’s “backstory”. Sassinak is what I read a few weeks ago, and Generation Warriors is what happens when Sassinak and Lunzie team up. WOW. A few quotes caught my eye enough that I took note of them, I’ll share one here..
Lunzie explaining to Agyar about human behavior, “.. Humans are generalists, and are healthier when they have varied activities. But their primary occupation should draw on innate abilities, should not require them to do what is hardest for them. Some individuals are naturally better at sit-down jobs… Others can learn new things easily, but quickly become bored with routines.” (p 595 my copy).
I’m working on a ton more and will stop here so I can do more reading and writing. E had off today so my routines are slightly skewed, but it was nice to have someone to share lunch with when I came home and he did laundry! :)

I can so relate to this post! Except for the popcorn eating, I do it all – love the library! Sometimes I wonder if the librarians realize that I don’t work there (but one daughter did and another volunteers there!) When stressed I also tend to waste tons of time surfing knitting sites on-line. Guess how I found this post? :)
Okay, I read some planet pirate type story, but the title escapes me. I do remember it was by Elizabeth Moon, though. Something about hunting. Ack, this is going to bother me now… iblist.com to the rescue! Hunting Party, nothing officially to do with pirates. And apparently part of a series. groan. now I have to go find the others. i so don’t have time for this! (typing one-handed, baby on lap.)
