twas a busy week
I did a LOT of reading in this past week but I only completed one “real” book.
The World Without Us by Alan Weisman is my only “real” completion for this past week. It’s something if I go out and pay full price (sadly at a chain, I couldn’t get to an independent that day, I should have waited) for the hard back and return the library book before it’s due. I found it made me really sit and think. I have pages of notes I took and lots of additional sources to read up on. Go read it. Think about it. Let me know.
On Yom Kippur, I read the entire machzor (ok I skipped the additional piyutim at the end and a few bits here and there, but otherwise I think we probably covered almost every page). Most of us have a love/hate relationship with Artscroll. I won’t say I completely agree with their English translations 100% of the time, but I “understood” so much more of Yom Kippur. I’m not going to say it was a splendid day, but it made it much more enjoyable and I feel I had a much better experience. I own tehillim in the same format but rarely use it. I’m toying with if I should buy anything else they have in the interlinear series, day by day my Hebrew improves, so I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I like my Rashi-Chumash set. I own regular machzors for all the other chagim. I like my siddurim…
