travels

Since it is now the month of Holidays, I thought I would finally catch up on some of the places E and I have been on our personal holidays.

The first week of July, E and I had a whirlwind trip through a small bit of Utah and Nevada. He drove. PG and I got to hang out and knit and watch the beautiful scenery. The day we landed in Vegas, E drove up through Zion National Park to Bryce Canyon National Park. We saw sunset then got up at a very very early hour to watch a beautiful sunrise at Inspiration Point, with a family which was pretty loud and obnoxious and had been at the Point since uhm, two hours BEFORE we showed up (which was a few minutes before sunrise, we missed the turnoff). It was really beautiful, I don’t know words to explain. We then hiked down from Sunrise Point on the Navajo Loop Trail and then the Queen’s Garden Trail loop back. The first part of Navajo Loop scared the squat out of me, and while I was contemplating how I’d get past what is to ME a sharp drop-off, I saw a hummingbird! It was beautiful and of course there is no photo.. You must trust me on this. I recommend doing the Navajo trail first as you get the sharp scary parts out of the way. :) After we finished this, E drove around and we went to Kodachrome Basin State Park. It was interesting but harsh weather threatened our hike.

Ok. I’ll leave Zion for next week. ;)

MiniRant: I recently placed a cafe press order. I ordered a bunch of mini pins, attempting to both be “cool” and have my bag say what I wanted it to. Sadly, today I lost one. I heard it hit the cement while I was walking along Lex however, I couldn’t figure out what dropped and I continued on my way. When I sat down on the subway some 20 blocks later [it was a beautiful morning for a walk] I realized what had fallen. I am now looking for a way to make patches instead — the silver girl scout inside of me thinks it’s a better idea (and she’s still sad I never could complete the requirements for the gold so I could be equal to my eagle scout dad). If someone could have a cafe press model for embroidered goods… before you ask, yes I generally secure my pins with a soft earring back but i tugged at these for quite a bit and believed they would all stay put.
