Tuesday’s Useful Tool
I’ve been trying to figure out what tool to showcase today. I’ve been struggling. There are many options and I wasn’t sure which one I wanted to explore next.
In the end, I chose:
WordPress!
I love wordpress. It’s super simple to set up, has (to me) infinite add-ons and plugins, and can even be used as a simple website creation tool if you are very lazy and poor at web design (aka me).
I thought I’d highlight a few of the plugins I use that I generally don’t talk about.
- Now Reading. This rocks. When I have some spare $ it’s going Rob’s way. Maybe he’ll let me knit for him instead. Hmm…
- Ubernyms. Ok, I discovered this today via Needle Exchange but I’m going to slowly be adding to it and cleaning it up, defining both the knitting and jewish words I use that part of my readers will grok but the other half may not. If there’s a word or combination of letters you don’t understand, please let me know.
- Hebrew Date – If I wasn’t so lazy I probably would’ve written this myself. This is nice. (hmm. I see he uses Ubernyms too! was I the only person who didn’t know about this plugin?)
- Akismet. ’nuff said.
- exec-php allows php code to be put inside the posts. It’s how i’m doing my library page before Rob added additional functionality to his Now Reading plugin.
Ok, the post from our travels on Sunday is not being written because I have too much other work to do and the weather is too nice to keep me inside when I don’t have to be. Our local park isn’t wired, so you’ll have to wait. Patience. If I have to practice learning to be more patient (must. not. go. buy. more. yarn. today. wait. until. sunday.) then you must be as well.

Thanks for the name-drop! I really like your site design :) I plan to steal the way you have rss buttons for each category, that looks really cool!
