I planned to post about my frustration with yet another grey and potentially rainy day.

By the time I completed my errands, the sky was bright blue and the sun was shining!

I’ll save and edit that post for a future date and leave you with a small picture of PG and Spot in Trois-Rivières, Québec on a different grey and rainy day that already feels too long ago.

I had plans for today’s post, but see now that it is highly unlikely it will be drafted and published today.

Thus I leave you with a terrible photo of a small portion of my penguin collection. Please do not send me (many) more until (if?) we move. I don’t have space and while penguins like to stay close together for warmth in Antarctica, they don’t need to in our flat.

On the top shelf are two glass penguins. One from my mother and one from my mother-in-law. Uhm.. please don’t ask me who gave me which. I forget right now. ;) Below them is a gourd penguin my in-laws picked up recently at a crafts fair in New Paltz (I don’t recall any further details, sorry).

I forgot totally about posting this. I’ve been wearing my Beatnik (aka black) coloured “lace beanie” since pesach (and alternating with the brown one). My order for more yarn has finally come into knitty city and I’m picking it up this afternoon. I sadly don’t yet have a picture of this new one but will probably update this post when I do finally have one. Just look at the other one, change the colour and there you go. :)

I also finished the first of the two big blue gift socks. So instead of being reasonable, I cast for a toe-up for me with the remainders of that half-ball. *sigh* I’m really nervous about them not fitting the giftee.

Ok. I’m still thinking about all of the death these last weeks. Not just here. Definitely not just here in the US. But there is healing that needs to be done everywhere. I’ve found that Mosaic Yarn Shop in Blacksburg, VA is having a Hokie Healing. They are asking for 8×8 squares in Maroon, Burnt Orange, White, and Black.

I’m searching for knits to go to other places in the small world of ours that have seen too much of death recently. If you know of any good sources please let me know. I will do some searching soon.

Lastly, I know this story is pretty old at this point, but I have not yet seen “Happy Feet” and probably won’t for a while. Apparently Bill Blakemore of ABC News produced a nice piece on how penguins are threatened. Knitting sweaters for the wee ones isn’t necessarily our best course of action. PG is asking me for a sweater for *HER* but I know that many of the other requests are overfull with sweaters. What can we do? I’m not sure.

penguins + travel : Edinburgh

Two months of the summer of 2001 was spent traveling through much of Europe. I had the wonderful fortune to spend a little bit of time in Edinburgh at the Zoo and to see the Penguins on Parade (warning link is to a jpg that site is unfinished). It was awesome. I want to go back. When it’s a bit warmer though.

I hope to post better next week when my schedule shall hopefully calm back down. I do know that there are many lurkers here. Please contact me privately if you don’t wish to do so publicly and let me know you are there. The email is my first name at this domain.
