books from the week
I expect my last term of grad school to have some impact on my reading choices for the next four-or-so months. In good news, it won’t eat into my book/fibre-budget as there are no assigned texts.
Also, I’m now recovered from my cold that affected the end of last week and am very happy in my new glasses. So, here we go at quick listing of the books I completed this past week. I’m still working on the back-log of proper reviews so this is sadly just a list for now.
Relating Narratives: Storytelling and Selfhood
by Adrian Cavarero

MultiReal
by David Louis Edelman

Cory Doctorow’s Futuristic Tales Of The Here And Now
by Dara Naraghi, J. C. Vaughn, James L. Kuhoric

The Power of Un Ideas: Lessons from the First 60 Years: A Summary of the Books and Findings from the United Nations Intellectual History Proj
by Richard Jolly

Stringing the Pearls: How to Read the Weekly Torah Portion by James S. Diamond

I found this to be a good overview of how to read the Parshah and think that while it’s written from a Conservative viewpoint it remained pretty balanced and is also readable by those of other circles. But please, keep the author’s bias in mind when reading. It looses points for it’s reliance on English, what can I say, I’m a biblical Hebrew snob.

I picked up the book reviewing book per your rec. Can’t wait to dig in to it!
Recipies. Hmmm. For a while, I was giving a bunch of recipe cards plus fancy kitchen gadgets as bridal shower/wedding gifts. Now I don’t know what recipies they even were. Probably my Shabbos standbys, but those have changed as well in the past 4 years.
Spinach kugel in a pie crust is pretty much a pareve quiche, very fancy and yumy, very simple. That’s a new one.
The broccoli kugel hasn’t seen so much action lately, but I got it from a friend who had it from a mutual friend, who had it from someone else. I think that was on the ‘list’, though.
How long should this be? Would you rather an email, or post ‘em all?
