parshat pinchas & the three weeks

July 6, 2007 - כ"א תמוז תשס"ז • Category: judaism

First, Parshat Pinchas is read this week. Bamidbar (Numbers) 25:10-30:1. I’ve been unable to devote the time I wish to learning chumash today so please just visit the normal places I send you to. Thank you for understanding.

It is the three weeks. What are the three weeks? it’s the time where we mourn the destruction of the temple. While mourning there are some things we don’t do, such as get hair cuts, go to wild parties, get married, or buy new clothing. The nine days between the start of the month of Av ending nine days later on Tisha b’Av (the fast day) have even stronger mourning practices.

Hope this helps.
