I have been s-l-o-w-l-y putting my needle and yarn stashes into a database and it's starting to make me laugh. I, too, am finding yarn that I had completely forgotten. I'm currently sorting the yarn by weight (lace, fingering, etc), noting the project I inteded it for when I bought it, and where it is (physically, in my apt.). It's a long haul, as you might imagine. Good luck with your system! I'd love to hear what you come up with. Oh, the inventory.
